The Secrets to Making Blowouts Last Part 2

Granted it’s tougher in summer to go 3+ days without washing your hair, but with a few tricks, our style can go the distance.

Don’t fight against you hair’s own natural texture. If it’s curly or wavy, that bounce is going to come out faster in the heat and humidity no matter how painstakingly straight you get it on day 1. Ask your stylist for a blowout with movement and bounce. At Blow, Vinette twisted a round brush out at our ends which gave our naturally wavy hair just the kick it needed.

2. Sleep is the enemy of the blowout. It can make your ends look tattered and can give you the wrong kind of bed head. We twist our hair up and keep it in place with a giant clip that we borrowed from our salon. We also do this when we shower and wrap a hand towel around our head.

3. On about day 3, our roots are in need of volume while the rest is starting to look a little too messy for our day job. Let’s tackle this in two parts:

For our roots, we first use a dry shampoo to absorb roots and add that all-important texture. Next, we back comb or tease the roots, which gives our fine hair the boost it needs and makes it bed-heady without looking like Pig Pen.

For the middle to ends, we finger comb our hair and add the lightest touch of styling cream (seriously, the size of a pencil eraser), which we rub between our hands before applying evenly all over the ends.

Since we color our hair, we try our very hardest not to wash it frequently. That said, never let your style come in the way of having serious fun: go for that midnight skinny dip or beachside bike ride. That’s what ponytails are for, after all!

That's Annie above on day 3 of a blowout. For our other secrets on making blowouts last, click here.

Having spent a week in my ballcap in an attempt to keep the lowlights that I spent a king's ransom on from fading, I seriously needed this post. Thanks.

You are darling, Annie.
